Per the rules of the Real Estate Commission, all active real estate agents are required to take 12 credits of Continuous Education during each 2 year license cycle, the current cycle finishing on June 30, 2015. Two credits must be in Ethics and a minimum of four addition credits must be in core topics such as:
- Agency
- Disclosure
- Legal issues such as contracts, attorney review and forms of ownership
- Ethics
- Fair Housing and NJ Law Against Discrimination
- Real estate statue and rules
- NJ State and Federal environmental laws/rules
- Requirements regarding escrow monies and record keeping
The remainder of the credits can be in core topics or in electives. These areas include:
- Commercial real estate
- Property management
- Seasonal rentals
- Real Estate Sales Full Disclosure Act
- NJ Real Estate Timeshare Act
- Financing
- Land use
- Real estate valuation
- Foreclosures and short-sales
